What do you think the future of PR look like?

As social media websites serve as a fast, cheap and easy way to directly connect to consumers. I think that marketing and PR campaigns will continue to focus their energy on Facebook pages, Twitter accounts and Instagram. Perhaps there will be new, similar or different social media websites emerging in the next few years. The sites may be more interactive as it seems to be doing a great deal of success with large organizations and even small businesses.

I found a really neat infographic on Panorama.com on ‘The Top Benefits Achieved in Social Media in 2013’.

  1. I definitely agree that social media is going to play a huge role in the future of PR. According to Sprout Social, “user engagement is growing nearly nine times faster than the social networks themselves” (http://sproutsocial.com/insights/data/the-social-customer-infographic/). Investing time in social media really does have tremendous potential for extending a company’s reach, especially when it comes to small businesses and non-profits who are working with a limited marketing budget. During my time managing the social media for Girls Inc. of Durham, I’ve seen our page grow from about 300 likes to over 900 in just a few short years (it doesn’t SEEM like much, but that’s 300% growth!).

Do you think this is just a temporary trend though, or does this growth and level of expected engagement have staying power?

    • I think that using social media as a marketing tool will be a longterm method, but is also destined to end at one point. As technologies continue to advance and as we hop to newer and more efficient apps and websites, there is no telling where it can go from there. With Google glasses, computerized watches being introduced into the market, I believe that with that there will be a need for other methods of marketing. As newspaper and radio advertisments continue to disintegrate I think maybe social networking will as soon as new methods emerge likewise.

Good question, I never really thought about it, thank you for asking!
